According to the EP Kings Twitter account, the friendly match set to take place between that side and the Sharks next month has been called off.
The Sharks were due to play the Kings at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on 11 July as a pre-Currie Cup warm-up fixture. The game has been called off by mutual agreement of the two unions.
While no official reason has been given for the cancellation, it’s likely that the timing of the fixture probably doesn’t ideally suit either team, given that both are in the throes of bedding in new squads with new coaches. Gary Gold and Brent Janse van Rensburg probably feel they need more time with their squads ahead of any match action.

OK…are we playing any other warm-up games?
@pastorshark (Comment 1) : Don’t we need a coach first? 😉
@Uli Boelie (Comment 2) :
@Uli Boelie (Comment 2) : I think that is why the game was canned and the breakfast for that matter. They cannot find a HC lol
@RedSharkUtd82 (Comment 4) : Oh dear…why not pull a Blues and appoint like Deon Stegman? Mind you, come to think of it, I can scrape together at least 50 reasons why not!!
@pastorshark (Comment 5) : Lol
Cancel the Gary Gold breakfast, check
Cancel the Kings friendly, check
Cancel the season tickets…..;
@Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 7) : Cant blame you..
*post edited 😉
@Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 7) : Ai…aiaiai!
@RedSharkUtd82 (Comment 8) : I’ll give it a bit more time and a few announcements before I’ll talk of wheels coming off. On the plus side we have made a few good signings…and more will surely come. Let’s see what happens…
@pastorshark (Comment 10) : Ja ok maybe I was a bit harsh..
Edited post accordingly 😉
Stormers and kings going through similar transition so I don’t think it’s panic stations just yet. We have another 3 – 4 weeks grace. And even if we aren’t ready with a new coaching setup Gold will have to step in temporary. On the player front we are still reasonably ok just need depth. Cheetahs pumas and kings have played a whole season with less.
@Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 7) : @RedSharkUtd82 (Comment 8) : Posted in jest.
Sadly I live way too far away to benifit from having season tickets but if I did live closer I would buy season tickets, I would renew them and I would attend the games. Watching live rugby at KP, supporting my team is always a treat.
@Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 13) : Oh I see – yeah I would like to watch games live too but being in Jhb doesn’t help
Based on the performance last years CC and Super rugby, the departure of senior boks, no head coach in place…what are our realistic expectations of this CC? knowing this forum prob winning it by 50pts in the final…id be pretty stoked if we clawed out way into the semis
@RedSharkUtd82 (Comment 11) :
@SheldonK (Comment 15) : Have to agree – semi’s would be good considering all the off field issues. I reckon the final will be between Lions and Cheetahs.
@RedSharkUtd82 (Comment 17) : Cheetahs? Based on? I agree Lions…the other slot is fair game. Aim: Semis…
@RedSharkUtd82 (Comment 17) : Lions and WP must surely be front runners…with Bulls, Sharks, Pumas fighting for 3rd and 4th spot. Cheetahs may throw their name in the hat if they remember to defend
@SheldonK (Comment 19) : I agree with that…
@pastorshark (Comment 18) : Based on their last game vs Bulls in SR 😉
FS gonna surprise a few people/teams I reckon, but then again what do I know, Im only an arm chair supporter that didn’t play club rugby or high school rugby for that matter thx to my “wonderful” knees
@Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 13) : That…
@RedSharkUtd82 (Comment 21) :
Yeah well, we’ll see…I always enjoy watching the Cheetahs…nice rugby to watch. Their defence has to improve…and they are losing a lot of players…so, yeah…well…let’s see…
@RedSharkUtd82 (Comment 21) : If they do make the final, you will have called it first…
@coolfusion (Comment 12) : yep stormers and king in transition
but ”wp”will be a force once more in the cc as they are not losing many ppl to the wc squad
their coaching staff for the cc is reasonably settled with dobson confirmed and wp coach months ago, and his support staff having been recruited and confirmed for the most part i understand
its for sr tht things are not so clear for wp/stormers just yet
wp also got gold players coming through the system all over the place
should be a exciting cc
hope out sharks gel fast as a team and make the final. And hopefully defend better than in this years SR
@pastorshark (Comment 24) : I should go see what the odds are on that and maybe place a small bet hehehe..
@revolverocelot (Comment 25) : W.P are losing Vermullen,Kitshoff,Catrekillis, to Europe probably Burger and de Allende to the Boks,Koch goes home for the Currie Cup and you say they will still be a force.
Sorry I disagree,they relied the whole year on a good scrum to earn them penalties and a deadly boot to convert them.
Take Kishoff,Vermullen and Burger and Koch out of the pack and it starts to look very normal.
Replace Catrekillis with Coleman and you up the creek without a paddle.
Sorry and they will also lose Ethebeth. to the Boks.
@RedSharkUtd82 (Comment 26) :
