After a bad loss at home to Free State the week before, Marius Louw and the Sharks under 21 side bounced back in fine style on Saturday afternoon, recording a 6-try 46-24 victory over the Leopards at Kings Park.
A slow start saw the teams evenly matched at 3-all after the first quarter, with Inny Radebe adding a second penalty to hand his side a slight advantage as the half progressed. It was Louw himself, impressive as ever, who crossed for the first try half an hour in, with centre partner Legend Marwana scoring the second five minutes later. Radebe converted both and the Sharks led 20-3 at the break.
The visitors struck their own blow early in the second half, scoring through right wing Dalen Goliath in the 44th minute, but that was cancelled out when Sharks lock Hyron Andrews scored his second of the season just five minutes later. A further try to Sharks number 8 Ayron Schramm sealed the bonus point. A late brace to Leoaprds centre Elden Schoeman would also have no impact on the margin of victory, as both Radebe and replacement scrumhalf Lotter Pretorius scored tries of their own in the final quarter.
After four games, Micheal Horak’s side now find themselves fourth on the log and well-placed to push for higher honours if they can build on this victory. Their next fixture is against the Kings, in Durban, in a fortnight’s time.
Sharks 46 (20). Tries: Hyron Andrews, Ayron Schramm, Inny-Christian Radebe, Nkululeko Marwana, Lotter Pretorius, Marius Louw. Conversions: Radebe (4), Rowan Gouws. Penalties: Radebe (2).
Leopards 24 (3). Tries: Dalen Goliath, Elden Schoeman (2). Conversions: Schalk Hugo (3). Penalty: Schalk Hugo.
