The Sharks have called in Leopards prop John-Roy Jenkinson to provide cover at tight head prop for the remainder of the Currie Cup campaign.
24-year-old Jenkinson, who will play for the team on a loan basis, is no stranger to Durban, having matriculated a Glenwood High and represented KZN at Craven Week level, before moving to Potchefstroom after school.
He also represented the Junior Springboks at the 2011 IRB Junior World Championship.
At 1.78m and an impressive 122kg, John-Roy should provide decent cover in a position now looking a little thin, after Lourens Adriaanse’s injury. Welcome back to Durban!

Being an ex Glenwood boy, glad to see him back…But he is a walking penalty im afraid…think young matt stevens
@SheldonK (Comment 1) : ag hell no!!!!!!! Hope you’re wrong!!!!
Who are the other tightheads in line for game time if both Adriaanse and Du Toit are out?
Does anyone know how that new chap that Taylor Gentry is getting on?
@durbsguy (Comment 4) : He probably still trying to find his helmet
@pastorshark (Comment 3) : Gerhard Engelbrecht and Denford Mutamangira.
@SheldonK (Comment 5) : That was sharp.
@robdylan (Comment 6) : I have no clue about them…Engelbrecht came on at hooker in the warm up game. Well, we’ll see this weekend…
@pastorshark (Comment 8) : Engelbrecht is actually a prop i am told.
@SheldonK (Comment 9) : I know…Rob said so too a comment earlier. I said that he came on as hooker in the warmup game to back up my comment that I had never seen him or the other chap at prop. I will be interested to see them this weekend…
What is happening with Coenie. Is he with us yet? Will he do duty? When will he be ready?
@pastorshark (Comment 10) : Apparently Engelbrecht is not a small man. I havtn seen him play, just chatted to his club coach
@coolfusion (Comment 12) : I think Coenie only joins from Super rugby. But with that neck he is a problem…
@coolfusion (Comment 12) : He’s still contracted to the Cheetahs until the end of the year.
@SheldonK (Comment 13) : Ja, saw him that Friday night…and he was not small. I didn’t know who he was and was amazed to see him go on at hooker! Now I know…and am still wondering whether he is not a worthwhile “Tom Lawton Experiment”…he’ll have to learn to throw into a lineout…but he can’t be worse at that than the current lot. For now we need him at tighthead though and so I look forward to seeing him there if he gets a shot…
@pastorshark (Comment 16) : Ya look at the moment he could kick the ball into the lineout and still be better than Hadebe. Marais only slightly better
@SheldonK (Comment 17) : 😆
