    Claasens was crisp and nippy.

All in all….another loss, our scrum murderred us. Difficult these dry times. Can Gold really steer us throigh this storm to success?

    1. First of all you’re starting to sound like a stuck record. Your opinion is clear. But if you repeat it this often, people just stop listening to the noise. If you ask me, I would actually listen more to what you’re saying if you use reasonable objective analysis in a reasonable tone – “Sharks are kak, GOLD OUT” doesn’t fit into that category…

  • @Orlok Tsubodai (Comment 228) : 2. Did you really just say “Improvements count for shit?” Wow. Really? Is that how your world works? Everything that is kak must either be magically perfect the next week or remain kak and be discarded? OK. My alternative to that approach would be: The Sharks are not good at the moment. Part of that may be coaching, but a big part of it is definitely playing personnel – our playing personnel is largely inexperienced, has to develop and needs to work on many aspects of their game. That being the case, it is reasonably at the very least highly unlikely that they will go from “not good at the moment” to perfect by next week. So what do I want to see? Improvements each week. If those improvements come each week, then the coaching team must be doing something right and I’m prepared to be a bit less harsh on them…and over time our playing personnel improves and we sit in a better position. That is how I see it. Now please either respond with a reasonable counter argument that I can actually do something with…or sprout the same stuff that I can ignore.

  • @Orlok Tsubodai (Comment 228) : 3. And don’t give me this crap about “being content with mediocrity” and all that. If you will read properly, I am neither content nor excited. I am disappointed that we lost, I am disappointed that our playing personnel has quite so much “development” to do, I’m even disappointed that Gold is being used as head coach at all. But all of that doesn’t make me blind…I can still see with these two eyes that the Sharks improved in many areas of the game…and I can still say so without it meaning that I am ecstatic about our performance and satisfied by the result! I’m sorry, but I’m not part of a world where there is only kak and perfect…and so my eyes don’t only see kak and perfect…and my mouth doesn’t only talk about kak and perfect. The Sharks are certainly not perfect…but they are also not just kak. I am not satisfied with where they are now, but I am interested in seeing them move more towards perfect…and when I see such movements I will say it. That is a long way from then being content with mediocrity.

  • @pastorshark (Comment 233) : Some people seem oblivious logic. Teams go through cycles, periods of dominance are followed by a rebuild period. When a team has a mass exodus of senior players, it WILL take time for a new core to be moulded.

At the Cheetahs this is more an annual occurrence 😀 👿

  • @pastorshark (Comment 232) : Just look at the Stats. Team with the most handling errors in SR and CC 2015….team with least metres with ball in hand, team with most tackles missed, team with least defenders beaten…etc. You will find the Sharks in the top 3 of every category. Unfortunately, if you are improving but improving at a slower rate than your competitors then are you really improving if the curve and the gap is getting bigger everyday? So yes, GOLD AND SMIT OUT must continue. Other teams are making day and night improvements, our improvements are hour to hour. Sorry, not good enough.

  • Comment 240, posted at 23.08.15 09:46:40 by GreatSharksays Reply

  • So the coaching failure is the fault of a rebuild? Defense took a dive when he started after a whole year with the team the most basic issue is still there. What is the excepted period for a coach to sort out the basics? This is not a player exodus problem it’s a, fixing what you do have, problem. All the teams are failing even the juniors who didn’t have an exodus issue. And that is a Director of rugby problem. I doubt the majority of sharks will happily accept rebuild as a constant excuse this is a high performance team and as such timelines are shorter and expectations are higher it comes with the territory.

You clearly know very little about my profession if you imagine it is just about finding silver linings. Most often it is about helping people to confront brutal realities. And I have learnt that you can’t do that by “imagining” you can change brutal realities by snapping your fingers, clicking your heels or anything else like that. You can only do it by taking one little improving step at a time. Anyway, I will now move into ignoring mode until those intelligent objective arguments actually come…

  • @pastorshark (Comment 244) : seeing as you raised your work philosophy I guess one trap you could fall into as a pastor is believing every single person will react the same way to your silver lining approach. I foresee things are only going to get worse with Gold in charge. Call it seasoned instinct. Let’s wait and see if he has the ability to magically turn the Sharks into tournament contending match winners. Personally I have seen no evidence of this and Gold has been in the hot seat for more than enough time for us to judge. It will be amusing at least.

How is he after 7 months in charge going to miraculously solve our problems after a few weeks ago declaring our preseason a huge success. The new Bulls coach only being in the hot seat for a month has already turned the ship around. Gert Smal turned the ship after a few weeks. Smit or Smith at the Cheetahs has already made a difference. And our Gold…..more like Gary Bronze.

  • @Orlok Tsubodai (Comment 251) : Look in many ways I agree with you except it’s Gary Beige.,not Bronze thats still too positive.
When the Sharks got rid of Jake and let it out if not officially ,that it was his disciplinary attitude that was to blame, and that the new regime would answer to the players the writing was on the wall.
They have created a culture of acceptance where even the diehard fans on this site think it is acceptable to play for 40 minutes.
We used to believe that we could beat anyone at Kings park,I remember the shock in the nineties when the British Lions beat us,99% of the fans expected us to win. That is why the stands were full.
So I don’t really care how charitable you would like to feel ,no loss is acceptable, and any coach whose record is on the trajectory that our current one’s is should do the honourable thing and piss off.

  • @Orlok Tsubodai (Comment 251) : There is no way in rugby that you can take a sports team from a perceived under performing union and make them a top of the table team in one season without buying a squad. You only gave to look at jake whites approach with monpellier to understand this. The mere fact that gary gold has been appointed director of rugby and not head coach implies the sharks have a bigger long term objective than merely getting instant results at the expense of growing talent. Our current predicament is as a direct result of our past sucess where we have had players who have ‘own’ positions gas resulted in our current lack of depth
