  • How well can Esterhuizen kick?! Well, Marco was correct in the post match interview about drinking by the Sharks fans. How many actually practice Zen?! So that leaves drinking! U can’t actually believe that they won! They shouldn’t have. Cooper was actually bad and Mjekevu incredibly was good; how did that happen?

  • A flyhalf must be able to dropkick securely from the halfwayline, properly clear the touchline and have a clear vision of how to send the backline away, and still dictate and win field with kicks. Do we have someone like that in our current ranks?

  • first half our scrum was pathetic i put that on chadwick and hadebe. Iv been standing up for these too okes for ages now, no more, no more

when thomas the tank came on at loose head for chadwick the game changed and hadebe was still on mind you

cooper came on and scrummed ok, was good in loose play, but had a shocker at the line out

lets talk about the lineout, and this relates directly to our lock options. Marco is so limited its shocking, i realise his trying his best, but come on, cant we find a better 5. If marco starts for us in SR as our first choose five then im going to loose my mind. His lock partner all CC Etienne Oosthuizen has been nowhere, Gaint is making a huge splash in the CC and EO getting worse.

John-Charles Astle looks decent if he can stay fit, he looks better than the ozzy def. We need to buy 2 locks asap, good ones, raid the lions, or get lood, or take botha or klyn from wp. Or take a bulls youth lock. Or buy giant out right

and by the way jus like the first game, the pumas looks so organised and well structured. Congrats to them they build a very good team in two yrs

  • @Seth101 (Comment 117) : I was also at the game and can add my two cents worth.
Firstly beautiful weather, the best for an afternoon game in years.Secondly one didn’t go in with a high level of expectation,so a win, any win was acceptable. The Pumas came to play, and they are worthy opponents.
The Sharks look like they are so desperate to impress, and its getting in their way, they are a team playing without any confidence. You can feel the lack of confidence of the coaching staff in the team.
Wentzel is no leader and those young guys are in desperate need of a strong mongrel leader to follow.
There is plenty of talent in the team ,absolutely sweet f all initiative and leadership. We need a guy like Frans Steyn to take the game in his own hands and give the rest something magic they can believe in enough to follow.
Wentzel is like Gold,so shit scared of losing that he has forgotten hoe to win.

  • This is what my mate sent to me :”Gary Gold is a Trojan horse, he has been planted in Sharks Rugby to destroy it…”
And “that Cronje boy is our Achilles Tendon… His choice of plays are amateur. He is too erratic.” My other good mate then responded…”The Sharks must keep Mjekevu at 14 and take Lionel Cronje to club rugby.”

  • @GreatSharksays (Comment 134) : I said before the game that the Reinarch/Cronje axis was an accident waiting to happen.
Cronje is not a bad player but more than anyone else in the team he has no confidence. He is another Gaffie,he would be much better at 15 than 10.
Reinarch is another huge problem for me.
In the current set up where everyone is just trying to find there place and play he is too much of a maverick to be playing 9.
We need the steady composed and experienced hand of Claasens at the moment
Reinarch ‘s individual brilliance is better suited to a more settled confident team.
The guy is just so eager its frightening. He has been pushed too far too quickly and has huge expectations to live up to.His late father’s rep,and his late father’s influentialfriends expectations far exceed his personal experience

We are currently trying to find solutions with what is in the stable and to retain talent.
We may get raided instead of buying before SR.
Cobus actually brought some spark and would be great playing from the bench. Boy do we miss McLoed!!

  • I agree that something which is not being made public is holding this proud union back. Perhaps this new culture of ultra secrecy is the symptom of the cause. I think the union’s finances are rotten. There was that tiny scrap of info some months back of financial wrongdoing at the union yet we have heard nothing more. Did Van Zyl leave under a cloud? Why else can a union such as the Sharks not be able to secure the services of a match winner head coach? Why are our top players leaving without being suitably replaced? Why are we hiring rookie assistant coaches? It smacks of the union not having money.

Can we have some transparency on this issue, Mr Smit?

  • @Dancing Bear (Comment 142) : Ja look…I have to agree with Orlok on this. They did say a R20mil turnaround. So it could very well mean that instead of a R30mil loss we made a R10mil loss. So “turnaround” means it is very unlikely we actually achieved a surplus. Of course if the communication from the Sharks was clearer we would now more (where have I heard that before?)…though to be fair it is probably difficult to be too clear if the situation is bad because it affects your ability to attract talent…

  • Ja look you all have valid points and coaching is the biggest breakdown. We say we miss this guy or that but most players are what they are till a union with good coaching makes them something more. So the raw ingredients are there already with all these guys. The biggest problem is how to get the sharks to hear the fans and if they do, will they care? Currently it sounds like it’s being run like a dictatorship, which means till the highest branches are trimmed the supporter and fan will not be heard. Unless Rob can score a q and a with John?

Im afraid with Bissie and Frans Steyn now gone there is nobody left at the Sharks with the balls to tell the players to man up etc

I don’t think we are financially in deep trouble. I do think we are not in a financial position to buy all the resources we ideally want and need. So, for example, guys on here have been calling for us to buy a hooker, lock, another prop, centre…and I don’t think we’re in a position to do that. Just a suspicion, mind you…
