  • Sterkte manne julle kan as julle wil – vergeet van afrigter wat nie lekker is en die Lions is ook net mense – doen dit vir die Sharks.

  • Thanks goodness! Hadebe almost single handedly cost us the game last week. In the second half, immediately after kickoff he gave away a penalty for not releasing the tackled player, and that led to a try. After that he threw a skew lineout throw that also ultimately led to a try. I’m being harsh, but he definitely is NOT our best hooker! The scrums are also weak with him on the field, although, to be honest, it wasn’t much better with Marais on.

  • I think this is pretty much the best team the Sharks can offer at the moment. As i said on a previous thread, if we try play a running, ball in hand game the Lions will destroy us on turnovers as we havnt been able to protect our own ball. Kick it deep and make their forwards run shuttles to hopefully tire them out and negate their power up front

  • You don’t have the right half backs to win this

  • @jakkalas (Comment 5) : flip, the guys have to step up and not have a 10 minute sleepwalking session again. promising positions against Lions and WP turned into nightmares

really worried about the set pieces but hopefully proper work was done as it must have been the worst of all the teams last round. GG was a bok forwards coach, surely he can at least improve this area – teach the front row a few tricks, just as WP used angles, walking around etc last week. our guys were made to look worse than they are but here the coaches has to take blame and make the guys more street smart

  • @Morné (Comment 7) : yip the pack will have to have a blinder (no evidence so far) to give Cobus and Joe ball to control the game…

if there ever was a game for Cobus to show that he learned new skills and alternative tactical plans at the Bokke, this would be the one…. Hate to say it but JW and HM style of play is probably the best shot the Sharks have this weekend.

in the cheezy workds of Pat Benator the Lions are saying “Hit me with your best shot and fire away” as it is almost impossible to think of a way for the Sharks to win this based on tactics and performances shown so far by both teams.

hoping against all odds for the team to find their backbone and surprise all and sundry

  • @The hound (Comment 14) : dammit, if Odwa is not too old then surely he can crack the match day 23, even if it is only aimed at trying to get Wandile to think about his position.

I remember Rob Du Preez rated Wandile as a SR level player when he still coached Rovers but apart from a few minutes vs Kings no evidence shown so far. mind you even Tollie looks a shadow of his ability

  • …and can that light-five of ours be any more gutless (except for the lone light of Thomas, having to carry that group).

Time for Dan du Preez to play at 4, send Ooshuizen back to wherever JW originally found him.

In the backline, drop Mjekevu and play Jordaan at 14 – Sithole at 13, and Esterhuizen at 11, with Heimar at 12 (sure Heimar has been underwhelming, but no worse than Esterhuizen at 12)….easy flippen peasy.

If Heimar sucks too bad at 12, then Cronje can take over from him once fit again, 12 always looks good on failed flyhalves 😉

  • @JD (Comment 22) : Mjekevu, he had the biggest mouth when he left the sharks as Plum never afforded him a chance to play. Now now now… one wonder why….

“The biggest problem at the Sharks is that when a young player comes through, they want him to be perfect,” Mjekevu said

“They don’t have room for mistakes and they are not adept at coaching a player up. When a young player is coming through and makes mistakes, they are not willing to sit down and help them. Not everyone is going to be like Pat Lambie.”

So what he is saying is, if you are crap, then you should still play for the Sharks?

Then he goes on to say this.
“The most disappointing part of it is that I never got an opportunity to play Super Rugby.”

“I’ll always have the blame at my door, though, because I’m the one who controls my performance.”

Now now, are you serious there lad?

Is till cannot believe how the Sharks got this guy back after the way he spoke about the Sharks.

I don’t feel like that is our only problem. Our centers are very … limited. Andre can only run straight (he does it well, but still) and Jordaan can only run fast (he does it well, but still). Neither of them seems to be intelligent decision making, creative midfield players, both just wait for the ball and do what they do best … run straight, run fast. Although I have seen them attempt passing, but that didn’t go so well.

Not to mention our wing, who I am yet to see do anything resembling a provincial wing. Passing, catching, tackling, kicking … non of these things are on his list of things he does well.

Oh and did you see how well we contest in the set-pieces.

Wouldn’t mind a year of Bakkies to give our tight 5 some respect whilst we look for a long term solution there. Any yes, Paul must move to wing asap with Sithole going to 13. Then again, if we have plans to get Loodt here, then Jean Luc can be converted to a 4 lock.

Give reinach and april a chance at halfbacks, odwa and sithole at centre(odwa not afraid to tackle and usually helps spark an attack) make esterhuizen and heimar wings(heimar has a good step ask wp in super rugby) and pietersen on fb. If the forwards just show a little mongrel then let the boys run. Can’t be worse than what we have seen thus far

good options. Maybe with better locks and loose forwards the hookers will have more
confidence, and the props will perform better. I said at the start of the CC i wanted us to use
this tournament to gauge the ability of all three young hookers. And only marais has
impressed me over all. Cooper and hadebe struggled mightly with throwing, and to a
degree scrumming (but is that really them or the props and the locks around them. And dont forget giant is back for SR 1.Beast/Thomas du Toit/chadwick/schoeman
    2. Cooper/marais/hadebe

Watch the 2007 final when he comes on in place of Jason Leonard,he turned a retreating English scrum around to one that started to dominate the Boks He could definitely play at the highest level.
Before you say that was then, watch his performance for Toulon probably the most expensive team in the world ,last weekend. He more than accounted for himself.
His problem at the Sharks was the disgusting physical condition he was in.
That you have to lay squarely at Gold’s door,as head coach the physical conditioning of the players is your responsibility. No school coach with an semblance of pride in his job would put a guy in that condition on the bench never mind in the starting line up,and week after week.

  • @The hound (Comment 75) : 100% correct. Clear lack of balls from the coach

  • @coolfusion (Comment 72) : Nearly forgot Matt….the reason we know Gold is a worthless coach – Matt’s new found abilities at Toulon. 😉
