One of the best junior players to come through the ranks in the last two seasons. Curwin Bosch is a 10 who is also at home at 15. Curwin has the vision to create space for others,pace and one of the best kicking games on the junior scene. After months of waiting, Curwin has declared loyalty to the Sharks and will join the squad earlier than most under 19’s. The future of Sharks and Springbok rugby. Benedict caught up with Bosch and spoke his move to Durban and that nightmare Craven Week final.
Hi Curwin, how are you?
Howzit man! I’m great thanks just exams keeping me busy at the moment.
What should Sharks fans expect from Curwin Bosch as a player and as a person?
I think firstly Shark fans are expecting me to perform on the field since it’s what I’m there for. Obviously I would like to think that I won’t be disappointing them. I think they can expect nothing but the best from me and honouring of the black and white jersey. That being said a lot of hard work needs to be done.
Which Sharks player will you be awestruck to see when you arrive for your first session?
I think Pat Lambie! I’ve met him before. He is a great person and even better rugby player!
You had a disappointing end to your Craven Week. What happened against Western Province?
*breaks into a roar of laughter* To this day I have no idea what happened that day I just remember kicking off countless times!
You are now a Sharks player and we understand unlike the rest of the U19 signings you will be in Durban earlier. Are you looking forward to the new era?
Yeah ?most definitely!! I cannot wait to join the Sharks and finally get my career underway! There are going to be some challenges but they all good challenges and I am looking forward to a great journey!
What are your goals for 2016?
I’d like to settle in with the mentality that I could fit in anywhere but I would also like to get a Super Rugby cap and hopefully catch the coaches’ attention to give me opportunities.
You are deemed the most talented youngster in South Africa since Handre Pollard by some. What do you think?
*chuckles* Yeah it’s always nice to hear these things but like I said before no one can determine my future except for my hard work and dedication! Lots of work lies ahead of me and I will take it day by day.
What attracted you to Durban the most?
I think the environment that the Sharks players have created for themselves. Its great to be around a bunch of players who want to be there and play the game! And of course the Durban weather is fantastic!
Which areas do you want to work on?
I wanna work on every aspect of my game! I want to become the complete rugby player! So I will start from scratch and turn my strengths to even stronger aspects as well.
You are aiming for the SA under 20 squad, do you think a few of your team mates from Craven Week 2014 will create more history with you when you potentially link up for the Baby Boks next year?
Yes it is my goal and I am sure its also those who are eligible to aim to play too. I will keep a close eye on the squad being picked and hopefully those who deserve it can get a chance!
Welcome to Durban Curwin and all the best.
Thank you!

He is definitely saying the right things.
Whatever happened to that Morne Joubert everyone was excited about? Glenwood 15. Is he still with us?
Nice one, thanks Benedict! Certainly is a player worth watching, and I think he will only get better.
@West Indies Cricket Board (Comment 2) : Oh ja! Good question…
@West Indies Cricket Board (Comment 2) : yes, played most of the season for under 19. Stood out, I guess, in a pretty average team.
@Another Nick (Comment 4) : @West Indies Cricket Board (Comment 2) : Was featuring for the u19’s this year. Think he was at 13 & 15 in most of the games.
@robdylan (Comment 5) : @robdylan (Comment 5) : Very average. I suspect a few changes expected in selection and scouting!
@robdylan (Comment 5) : @bchanakira2 (Comment 6) : Ah, thanks guys!
Great interview – thanks Benedict.
Welcome Curwin – very excited to have you join us.
Thanks Benedict. I hope Curwin’s enthusiasm rubs off on the rest of the squad and we see a Sharks Team going out in 2016 willing to express themselves and bring back Sharks Rugby.
Welcome Curwin. I hope you have a long and happy stay with the Sharks family.
How’s the exams going Curwin? Should you not be studying instead of doing interviews? ;-P
Jeepers Benedict, dont you spare anyone. I was too cautious to bring up that final on the other Bosch thread.
He at least seems to have put it well behind him.
As usual, good interview.
How about an interview with our new coach.
@Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 13) : There was a good piece in the Tribune where the reporter said that because he was unable to get an interview with Robert, he interviewed James Small on Robert instead.
The gist of Small’s interview was that Rob would succeed because like Plum, he was a Natal man thru and thru and had the backing of the Sharks legends ,who backed him to a man.
Now you can read what you want into that,but for me he was saying its time we took back control of our team from outsiders.
@Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 13) : @The hound (Comment 14) : How about an interview with Graham Henry?
I would love to know what Sharks 23 man squad he would choose as well as what Bok squad 😀
I like him already!
@The hound (Comment 14) : Sounds good. I wonder if James Small sees himself as a Sharks man.
@The hound (Comment 14) : By all accounts the guys at the Leopards have the highest regard for R du Preez and are very sad to see him leaving them.
@The hound (Comment 14) : any chance you could send me a copy of the article?
@Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 17) : I think in a strange way he does.I wouldn’t mind him coming here with Rob,I know he is controversial and also fell off the rails,but he inspires confidence and if you by any chance got into a bar fight you couldn’t wish for a better back up.
Tripper read Tribune.
@ChrisS (Comment 15) : It would be insightful to see how others would put our talent to use, and who beter that Graham Henry. Get busy Benedict.
@The hound (Comment 20) : I also think he is, when we last won the Currie Cup in 2013 at Newlands he was interviewed and it was pretty clear that he favoured the Sharks over WP. He was the only one to back the Sharks at Newlands.
@Big Fish (Comment 9) : I can only say ditto to both these comments!
Thanks Benedict!
@The hound (Comment 21) : que?
@robdylan (Comment 27) : SUNDAY TRIBUNE,Nov 1, page31,
Du Preez can bring back magic for Sharks-Small
Darryl Pollock.
@The hound (Comment 27) : ok thanks. I can’t get the Tribune here, but will use that headline to try find it online, if I can.
@The hound (Comment 14) : now if we can get Small to join him in Durbs!!!!!!!
@Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 17) : @The hound (Comment 20) : I also think he does! If I remember correct he once said his biggest mistake as a player was to leave Sharks.
Really looking forward to watching Curwin play in black and white!
@robdylan (Comment 5) : @bchanakira2 (Comment 7) : Average indeed, certainly a few good individuals, just never quite pulled it together as a team!
THIS IS ALL VERY EXCITING!
I dont understand why chris cloete would leave would leave WP and a likely SR game time for the stormers too sign for The puma’s
yes the pumas are a well run team on the up, but id figure he was more likely to play SR at Stormers than the Lions
or am i over estimating the depth at loose forward at the stormers ?
It is chris cloete the openside flanker that left wp right ?
@revolverocelot (Comment 34) : I actually think Cloete might get game time at the Lions. With Kwagga and Whiteley going to play 7’s their is a huge gap. Rumor has it that Powell also wants Jaco Kriel for the 7’s. So Cloete will most likely be in the Super Rugby squad and get h=game time
@Mutley (Comment 35) : That is to say if the pumas remain part of the lions francies
@Zibbie (Comment 36) : Major noise here in PE re Kings. Players not paid again and Cheeky “unavailable for comment”. Could be he Pumas or a Pumas / Leopards team be looked at if Kings fold?
@Kabouter (Comment 37) : 😯
@pastorshark (Comment 38) : Three months in a row payment ussues. U19 won CC but so far no news on Lotto or SARU funding for academy.
Kings PR making Sharks look like masters of the universe in that department. Stefan Watemeyer and Agaba must just be looking for a new employer…..
@Kabouter (Comment 37) : i base this on that i have read that the Griqas and Griffons will no longer be part of the Cheetahs for super rugby
Also , the Lions have bought Faf De Klerk , Corne Fourie and JW Bell . This also gives me the impression that the Lions are making sure they can use these players .
I have , however , not seen any official confirmation . So this is just speculation on my side .
@Kabouter (Comment 37) : @Kabouter (Comment 39) : The Kings players and coaches dont deserve their administrators. SARU, who must bear some of the brunt, for what has happened there must step in and sort this out pronto. I have a lot of admiration for how the Kings teams and coaches have remained positive throughout this debacle.
@Zibbie (Comment 40) : how did you guys let vincent koch go?and when you did,why didn’t you sent him down to dbn first? 😀
@Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 41) : It is really sad as the whole community has bought into the side but again the management has been atrocious and they must really think thw public is stupid. President Watson has been promising the biggest sponsorship in the history of the sport since but nothing materialised or even looks forthcoming. Sad and creates no credibility.
Maybe Pierre Mackie can do a post on the current status?
@50shadesofshark (Comment 42) : haha 🙂 wont be doing to much complaining . Coach Ackers knows what he is doing . i believe in him and he has my full backing .
i think the GPS he was using might have been outdated … 1652 maybe ? 🙂
@Zibbie (Comment 40) : Yes, the Griffons and Griquas aren’t formally art of the Cheetahs franchise anymore, but their players are eligible and available for selection. Think it’s more an administrative parting, than co-operation. The Griffons and Griquas administration don’t form part of committees and such. That is my understanding
@KingCheetah (Comment 45) : ah ok cool . thanx for the info . Do you know if it will be the same thing with the Pumas and Lions ?
@Kabouter (Comment 39) : Yup…unbelievable…
I wonder how Curwin’s exams are going…
