Jean-Luc to sit out Bulls clash

Sharks team doctor Alan Kourie has released a detailed injury report ahead of Friday’s match against the Bulls in Pretoria; all of the players named appear to be well on track with rehab, with Jean-Luc du Preez the only fresh injury concern after Saturday’s bruising derby at Newlands.

Du Preez picked up a slight foot injury against the Stormers and will miss this weekend’s game, but is expected to be fit for selection next week. Gary Gold will thus be forced into a loose trio reshuffle for Loftus.

Patrick Lambie, Ruan Botha and Franna Kleinhans all continue with rehab after their successful operations. Botha is expected back at the beginning of May and thus could possibly even feature in the first game after the tour, against the Hurricanes in Durban. Lambie and Kleinhans should be back a week or two later.

Jacques Potgieter is also well on track with his rehab after surgery and is expected to be six weeks away from action; he should thus also become available towards the end of the tour.

Poor Tera Mtembu doesn’t know his exact fate yet, with Kourie revealing that he sustained bone bruising in his left knee during Friday’s practice match. His lay-off period is not known at this stage, but will be confirmed later depending on how the injury responds to treatment.

A number of other players managed to come through Friday’s encounter unscathed; we can probably assume that Dale Chadwick, Thomas du Toit, Giant Mtayanda, Khaya Majola and Jean Deysel are all pretty close to selection at this stage, while Renaldo Bothma also can’t be too far away.

  • Hope it is nothing to serious. EO will probably move to Flank.

  • vd walt at 7 with ddp at no8 with deysel on the bench?vd walt to go to no8 ,and deysel to replace vd walt at 7?or start deysel and vd walt on the bench.would have been nice if potgieter was available.selecting mcduling is also an option but not sure it will be the correct selection .

He is a great player one of the best I have ever seen, unfortunately his parents just like Marcell’s put his future in the hands of a professional agent.
The agent has the morals of a Lascar sailor, and has always had one agenda to make as much money as he could out of the boy.
The Sharks are to blame in both cases, because they better than anyone else knew the potential of what they already had under contract and failed in both cases to secure these assets.
Don’t be pissed off at the boys they are playing a professional game,a game that says we pay you huge money to expose your body to severe injury, the other side of the game says while I am able I will make sure I get as much money for it as I can.
So get off your high horse, and welcome to 2016,its professional rugby these guys are playing.

Google “Fabian Delph the snake” and you will see the Sharks fans have actually gone quite light on the guy.

I’m assuming he was keen to stay on at Kings Park, hence the loyalty comments, but imagine the kind of money subsequently thrown at him by WP, and the thought that his career might end sooner rather than later (bearing in mind his luck with injuries), I don’t agree with the way it was done whatsoever, but I kind of understand. Hell, I think I might even sign for the bulls in that situation…

Two rugby World Cups,Two rugby league world cups, two Super rugby cups, with different teams,Tri nations,Bledisloe, and every thing that means anything in league in Australia and New Zealand.

Now we can go the Stormers way of screaming and bithing or we can get on with our lives and wish the guys a farewell and let them play where they want. Yes I also feel it was not handled correctly and would have liked it to be deferent but it is what it is and will not change.
One thing we seemingly forgot is that the Sharks are not only victims in this player poaching game they also sometimes play the poacher just think of Mapoe who practiced for 6 month with the Sharks whilst contracted to the Cheetahs and I’m reasonably sure Ludik and/or Alberts was also poached (via a loophole in their contracts) whilst still contracted to the Lions.

Something must have been horribly wrong at W.P and very right at the Sharks for these two W.P royalty connected players to jump ship,
At the same time Pollard still at school also jumped to the Bulls.
Whatever it was seems to have gone because the first two have returned to the fold, and don’t be surprised if Pollard also does his prodigal thing.

I personally think age group rugby with a set weight/size limit will make it safer as well as force coaches to work on skills rather than just buy the biggest kid around to win games!!!
