The Sharks have confirmed that Kyle Cooper and Paul Jordaan will leave the union on completion of Super Rugby 2016.

As we’ve reported previously, both players are set to move to Europe, with Cooper joining the Newcastle Falcons and Jordaan moving to La Rochele in France.

The Sharks wish both players well and we, of course, echo those sentiments.

  • Now how much will we regret screwing around with Sithole all this time? 🙄

  • Ward….get us Jeremy Ward – he’s with the Kings, so it should be a buy one, get one free deal….sadly Velleman has already been scooped up by Toulon. 😐

  • @Uli Boelie (Comment 3) : I disagree, I think he showed alot of potential at centre, certainly keeps the opposition on their toes

I must say that I agree with Uli on this one, I don’t rate Sithole as a centre and feel he is much better suited at wing.
That doesn’t mean however, that if identified as the potential replacement, that he not be skilled up, to fulfil such a role.
Just think that JP at 13 and him at wing is a better fit, at the moment in terms of their skills.

  • Sithole made the training squad for the Boks at centre. That doesn’t mean a helluva lot really, but the fact that Jordaan didn’t even achieve that is telling.

But then again the current coaches seem to agree that Sithole is not a starting centre so maybe that’s the case. Or maybe he needs to go where he is rated to prove things one way or another.

  • I don’t in any way feel Sithole is the finished article at centre but when he played there and it wasn’t that much, he looked dangerous and I felt he could mature into a very lethal outside centre. That was 2 years ago and since then he has had nearly no game time at centre. I don’t feel he is a world beater at wing but at centre I felt he could have been. With Jordaan and JPP going this could be an opportunity to try him out there. I do feel he does have to much pedigree to be discarded.

  • @Southern_Shark (Comment 22) : Ward does have potential but id like to see how he fares in senior rugby first. Another suggestion (assuming the Sharks have any money) was to try lure a guy like Jan Serfontein down to Durbs. His career has stalled at the Bulls and a change of scenery may do him a world of good- he is a quality player. If we promote through the ranks id like to see if Sithole can live up to the big hype and also see a guy like Morne Joubert play 13- he is big, strong, fast and has a god skillset.

  • @SheldonK (Comment 23) : With that skillset, it has to be Morne Joubert. No need to bother with the others then.

  • @Salmonoid the Subtle (Comment 24) : He is a fullback traditionally but has been played all over. Think he has all the attributes to do a very successful transition to 13 like Jacque Fourie. He is an intelligent player so could easily organise the defensive line. Question is where the Sharks will look to fill the void. Surely they have to try some other besides Esterhuizen/Sithole all Currie Cup

  • Comment 25, posted at 08.07.16 09:57:24 by SheldonK Reply

  • @SheldonK (Comment 25) : Must admit I dont know anything about Joubert and based my dismisal of all others on your sticky o on the keyboard when you described him as having a “God” skillset. Is he the ex Glenwood player that was playing age group rugby while still at school?

  • I would love to see the Sharks hunt down and resign Riaan Viljoen, the way he is currently playing and his skill set is exactly what the Sharks are missing.
He has a few maybe 2 years of top rugby left in him,and would add the experience to let guys like April and Sithole grow

  • @The hound (Comment 27) : Chatting to guys that knew him during his time here he apparently just didnt fit in here. Wasnt anything sinister just didnt gel in the culture etc i guess. But yeh apparently he was a bit of a loner so the move away apparently wasnt a surprise. But agree he is doing a superb job for the Sunwolves

  • @SheldonK (Comment 25) : yes agree with having a look at joubert playing no13.cullen also played no13,and stefan terblanche made the same transition.ludik was another fullback who played very well at no13.another player imo the sharks should have a look at is ew viljoen, been mentioning his name a fair few times.has not broken through yet at wp.played sa schools no15,baby boks no13,and this last weekend no14 for wp.

  • @50shadesofshark (Comment 29) : Isnt EW Viljoen going overseas- thought i saw something about that? Maybe im wrong. He has struggled to break through- perhaps a case of being a good school player is as good as he is going to get. Same goes for ex affies centre Jurie Linde and ex Monnas centre Bradley Moolman

  • @SheldonK (Comment 30) : not sure.did not see his name on the list of players on ss.think injuries have played a role, too.
