The madness continues

Allow me a little rant, if you will? I’m not sure if you’ve seen this article, but in case you haven’t, have a quick read before continuing.

I’ve been hearing mutterings for a week or so about knock-out phase eligibility and concerns that Pat Lambie might fall foul of the four-game rule, but I’d honestly dismissed that speculation as ill-informed at best, if not downright disingenuous. Pat Lambie has been a contracted senior Sharks player for seven seasons, after all and is our established captain. There is simply no way that any sensible rule on the planet could rule him ineligible to play a quarter final.

The point I missed, of course, is that the body we’re dealing with has no interest in making sensible rules or rulings. This nonsense is just another in the long line of unforgivable SANZAAR blunders and quite frankly is tipping the scales, in my mind, from mildly amusing to all-out farce.

Expect the Sharks to stick Pat on the bench this week, just in case, but don’t expect to see him take the field. Gary Gold will feel, rightly, that his hand has been forced, but if we can’t beat the Sunwolves with 22 players, then we’re in a worse place than I thought.

Being without Ruan Botha in a play-off game is potentially more concerning and I’m not sure what the way around that one would be.

  • This is just bloody stupid from sanzaar.

  • I cannot see how the 4 game rule can apply to Lambie, he was in the Sharks squad from the start of the season and was out due to injury.

Edit: Maybe I should have read up first. Apparently this was because Lambie was listed as an injured player at the start of the season and therefore not available to play. He only played 3 games after returning from that injury.

Wouldn’t he have to take the field for it to count as a match?. Last 30 seconds far away from the action

I see that the Chiefs are trying to exempt Liam Messam from the 4 game rule as he came into the Chiefs side (from the NZ Sevens) as an injury replacement

  • Sanzaar ruling on Lambie and even Botha makes no sense. They were contracted as on 1 January. Rhyno Smith i do get but the other two is just someone wanting to show they have power. As you say Rob he will sit bench and not take the field…well done Sanzaar thats a great advert for rugby.

  • Sanzaar is an absolute shambles. What utter BS is this? So now, GG is forced to “risk” Lambie on the bench, even if he doesn’t play at all, just so he can qualify for the playoffs. This makes about as much sense as their ridiculous points/conference system.

I have just realisedd that Duitser Bosman would fit into the SANZAAR set up seamlessly.

Cleaning out the entire old guard was never going to turn into instant success, the old tired “building” was broken down, and the construction of an entirely new foundation was then initiated – Smit sadly made quite a few glaring mistakes here, and had to restart on a few occasions, with the genuine rebuilding only ever starting when Gold was given the time at the helm post CC 2015……SR 2015 and CC 2015 didn’t really afford Gold with much time to get systems and coaches organised the way he wanted.

BvZ and co. had taken the Sharks as far as they could, but their system was antiquated and I don’t believe a minor tweak would have been able to fix it.
