I’ve been mulling over the performances of the Springboks of late, as well as the drumming the Aussies are getting and feel that there is a issue that few seem to be talking about. […]

Battered Boks need to hit the “reset” button
A good friend of mine (and I think you know who I’m talking about) likes to talk about team culture a lot – and in particular, refers often to a team having a “default play” or trusted go-to move or style that they know in their sleep and can always count on to get them out of a slump. Heyneke Meyer’s somewhat schizophrenic Springboks have lost their way quite comprehensively over the last 12 months and while it may not be an overly popular suggestion, I feel they need to go back to what has worked for them in the past – and do so quickly. […]
It’s IMPI time!
The Varsity Shield kicks off on Monday, with UKZN Impi coaches Ryan Strudwick, Rudi Urbach and Dylan Campbell having selected a strong squad to take on Peter de Villiers’ UWC in Cape Town. […]
Plenty of big names linked with Sharks job
They say nature abhors a vacuum and with the media probably a part of the natural world (although sometimes it’s a bit of a stretch), it’s unsurprising that the particular vacuum that is the now-vacant Sharks Director of Rugby position is drawing in plenty of names. […]
S’bura’s Bok nod
Cell C Sharks centre S’bura Sithole has been rewarded for a great Super Rugby campaign to date by being included in Bok coach Heyneke Meyer’s 36-man squad, for a training camp to be held in Durban later this month. […]
New era for Sharks rugby
The recent appointment of John Smit as the new CEO of the Sharks and his subsequent appointment of Brendan Venter as the new Director of Rugby for the province has clearly provided the opportunity and impetus for the Sharks to enter a new era with a fresh approach from men who have a previous track record as strong leaders and who in partnership with relatively new President Graham Mckenzie (who is also noted for his leadership qualities) will be charged with huge responsibilities. They urgently need to assess the current state of rugby at all levels of the game within the province, set ambitious yet challenging goals and more importantly develop a strategic plan that will finally turn one of the biggest names in world rugby (thanks mainly to the efforts of outgoing CEO Brian van Zyl) into a truly professional and successful provincial franchise, with a trophy cabinet providing the necessary evidence of a successful tenure. Rumours point to Mujati

SA Rugby shocked at Analyst’s passing
The South African Rugby Union yesterday shared the sad news that former Springbok Analyst Malome Maimane had passed away, at the tragically young age of 41. […]
de Villiers vs Meyer – who is better?
Heyneke Meyer and his selections and lack of a game plan that can win the Springboks a game of rugby has received a lot of air-time this week, with plenty of calls prior to the announcement of the team for both Johan Goosen and Pat Lambie to be included in the squad. My mind wandered to a time when we complained about the same two issues but with a different coach in charge. […]

Butch calls time on test career
Maritzburg College’s finest – former Shark and World Cup Winner Andrew David James – has opted to retire from test rugby at the age of 33, according to a press release from SARU. […]
SA rugby world tying itself in knots
I’ve tried to sit back a little over the last few days and watch (and chuckle) as the local rugby media, both professional and amateur, has whipped itself into a right froth about the upcoming Bok coaching appointment. […]
