Further injury losses for Boks
Toetie, A victim of circumstance or just plain unlucky?
Most people will not agree with me, but I think Allister Coetzee is a good coach, he is one dimensional in his approach, but with the right players his approach wins games. Whether he is the right person for the Bok job is still a question, but he has certainly achieved enough to warrant his selection. […]
Fleck rotates team for Jaguares
Stormers coach Robbie Fleck has opted to make a few changes and rest key players as his team get ready to tackle Los Jaguares in Argentina on Saturday evening. The most notable players to get a break are Schalk Burger and Pieter-Steph du Toit. […]
Last Exit to Bronkhorstspruit Vol. 6: “Don’t Worry, Be Happy (a.k.a. ode to the whinelands)” – with apologies to Bobby McFerrin
Normally I don’t like to indulge in schadenfreude (much), but the amount of negative press surrounding the Sharks’ win over the weekend has forced my hand. Sure, the penalty try was contentious, but it’s not like it’s the first time that has ever happened. You win some, you lose some. The fact remains, in my eyes (which are admittedly not entirely free from bias), the Sharks were in the ascendancy for most of the game, winning the set pieces, bossing the collisions, and playing the moments that mattered better. So here’s a little light-hearted response to the naysayers out there. […]
Sarries stint for Schalk
Tough-as-nails Namibian flanker Jacques Burger may have decided to hang up his boots, but Saracens Director of Rugby Mark McCall has made already found an incredible replacement in the form of tough-as-nails South African flanker Schalk Burger. […]
Last Exit to Bronkhorstspruit Vol. 5: So Who’s the (Im)perfect 10?
The World Cup is now but a memory, and (rather predictably, some might say), the Bokke have failed to scale the lofty heights that is generally expected of them. As is the norm, in the aftermath of the tournament there has been a deluge of articles (celebrating the magnificence of the All Blacks, bemoaning the decline of the Bokke, applauding the development of the Tier 2 nations, assessing the state of the game, and of course, revelling in England’s embarrassingly early exit), but these have been steadily tapering off, and now we, the fans are faced with the rugby doldrums; that dreary time between November and February when there are no games on the calendar, nothing to discuss, and we, the fans, are expected to get our fix from roundball, cricket and golf (ugh). […]
Minimal change as Matfield leads
Heyneke Meyer may have selected his last Springbok team, and much like his 4 years to date, it has failed to generate much excitement. […]
RWC Semi-Final 1: NZ vs SA
This is what World Cup Rugby is all about. Two teams facing each other in hat can only be described as a colossal match-up. It is finally here, Semi-Final 1 is upon us and the Boks have a massive match ahead of them if they are to compete for the elusive spot in the Final. […]
Who will dominate
The fierce rivalry between the Springboks and the All Blacks started in 1921 in Dunedin New Zealand when the home side won 13 – 5, but little did anyone know that 94 years later these two proud nations will still be battling it out to dominate the known Rugby World over 80 minutes. […]
Looking at the numbers
A lot has been said about Schalk Burger’s 26 carries in the game against Wales and how he was deserving of his Man-of-the-Match Award because of his tireless energy. He made 26 carries for 55m as well as chipping in with 16 tackles. This is a phenomenal effort and shows just how much “The Incredible Schalk” means to the Boks. […]
Boks unchanged for Semi showdown
The Springbok team to face the All Blacks in the World Cup Semi-Final this weekend has been named, with an unchanged starting fifteen taking the field. […]
Jean leads Boks in opener
The Springbok team to face Japan in their opening fixture of the 2015 Rugby World Cup has been announced, with Jean de Villiers leading the team and Patrick Lambie starting at flyhalf. […]
Springbok squad announced
Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer has named his 31 man squad for the Rugby World Cup to be held in England and Wales, kicking off in three weeks’ time. The squad has it’s talking points, much of which were discussed before the announcement already. […]
Friendly: Argentina vs South Africa
The Springboks face Argentina in Buenos Aires in the last test before the Rugby World Cup kicks off. It will be sweet revenge for the Boks should they be able to pull off a victory, but it will matter very little in the bigger scheme of things. A loss would result in a record fifth loss in a row. […]
Jean back, Koch starts
The Springbok squad to face Argentina in Durban this weekend has been announced, with no fewer than 5 changes from the team that lost to the All Blacks two weeks ago. […]
