Super Rugby 2016: Round 1 Stats
Hi all. So this will be a weekly article with all the statistics of the weekends rugby. I am not completely sure what format will work best, and what everyone would like to see. So please critique and make suggestions. For now I will use the information from the Vodacom stats sight, If anyone can suggest other stat sources for me to use, please do so. […]
Currie Cup Team of the Week: Semi-Finals
With only four teams involved and only two coming out the winners it was always going to be a little hard picking any other players than from the Sharks and Western Province, so this became more of a who will be the players to look out for in the final this weekend: […]
Currie Cup team of the week: Week 8
The Sharks and Western Province continued their run for home semi final spots with good victories against the Lions and the Cheetahs respectively. As usual in this competition these two games produced two tight finishes with the two top teams showing just a little more resolve and character to set themselves up nicely for a battle for the top spot, a battle that could likely end in a winner-takes-all scenario when the two teams meet in two weeks time at Kings park. […]
Currie Cup Team of the week: Week 7
Only three more games to go before the end of Currie Cup round-robin and this time it was the Sharks who showed some intent and send a warning to their opposition with a comprehensive victory against the Cheetahs. They also take the top spot on the log from Western Province who struggled to get past Griquas. The Lions put in another dominant performance against the Bulls for their convincing win. […]
Currie Cup team of the week: Week 6
Both the Sharks and Western Province pulled away just a little from the rest of the competition to confirm their spots as the log leaders last weekend. The Sharks struggled to beat their Currie Cup bogey team and took yet another victory coming from behind, while Western Province put up a convincing enough performance to hold on and build on a lead after losing one of their players to a red card, late in the first half. They certainly look like the team to beat. […]
Currie Cup team of the week: Week 5
The past weekend’s results have really tightened things up on the log and now any win or loss could be crucial. The top 4 are all within a win of taking top spot again and the Bulls, with their strong win against the Cheetahs, have shown that they are never out of the running. They hung in there against the Cheetahs, who looked like scoring throughout an open match, but weren’t allowed to cross the line by a spirited Bulls side. […]
Currie Cup team of the week: Week 2
Another closely fought weekend of rugby brings us to the end of Currie Cup round 2, where the Sharks sealed their victory in the final few minutes with an intercept try against the Lions, the Bulls struggled past Griquas in a match where entertainment quality certainly wasn’t a focus and Western Province gave away a big lead to the Cheetahs, before taking it back for a last gasp victory. […]
Currie Cup team of the week: Week 1
Currie Cup is already underway and what a start to the competition! All three opening games ended with only one score separating the winners from the losers with the Bulls and Western Province ending their first round in a draw. […]
Super Rugby team of the week: semi finals
So the Chiefs and the Brumbies will compete for the title of Super Rugby Champion at the end of this week. The Chiefs vs Crusaders game was always going to be a close one, with the Crusaders in sublime form and their kingpin Carter – showing his class over the past few weeks – just being picked as the favorite here. In the end it was a pretty dodgy decision by Carter to take a drop with 5 minutes to go, that finally cost the Crusaders the game. […]
Super Rugby Team of the Week: the Qualifiers
The Super Rugby qualifiers have been completed, with the Crusaders coming out on top of the Reds and the Brumbies struggling to a close victory over the fighting Cheetahs. Since only one South African team was involved in the qualifiers and only one remains for the semis and possibly the final, there will be no more South African team of the week, but we will look at all the players who performed the best over the course of the qualifiers. […]
Super Rugby 2013: Team of the week 20
It’s our final installment of a South African team of the week for this Super Rugby season and as the 4 South African teams that played last weekend played against each other it was pretty clear that it would be the Stormers and the Sharks who would dominate this last installment. […]
Super Rugby Team of the Week: week 18
So after three weeks away from it all, it’s back to business for the Super Rugby teams – for the South African and New Zealand teams at least – while Australia finish off their series against the Lions. […]
Super Rugby Team of the Week: Week 16
Last weekend again produced an upset or two, further complicating the play-off permutations. The only teams who can now definitely not end in the top 6 are the Highlanders, Kings, Force and Rebels. The Cheetahs will end on at least 50 points since they still have a bye coming up, but should they lose against the Stormers and the Blues, any of the Blues, Waratahs, Hurricanes, Stormers or even Sharks could still technically take their spot in the top 6.. The same goes for the Crusaders on 46 points; if they don’t win at least two of their final three games, they could still miss out on a play-off spot. […]
Super Rugby Team of the Week: Week 15
Last week I was still holding on to some hope that, should the Sharks get a good win against the Bulls, they could still make the playoffs. Everything last weekend fell into place for them to be well placed to take a spot in that top 6. After their loss the Crusaders would have been only 5 points ahead of us, the Rebels once again putting in the performance of their lives against the Waratahs would have had us only 2 points behind them. The Brumbies kept the Blues on 42 points also just 5 points ahead of us had we taken a win and the Stormers hung on for a win, which would have kept another team, the Reds, in reach of the Sharks. […]
